True West at Open Stage

January 8-January 31, 2015

By Sam Shepard Directed By Sydney Parks Smith

“Electrifying, dangerous, and chillingly funny.” – The Guardian
In Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Sam Shepard's classic black comedy, two brothers unexpectedly reunite in their quest for a new life in a savvy, brooding dark comedy. Austin, a successful screen-writer and family man, yearns to ignite his lackluster and predictable existence – something his writing has failed to do. His older brother, Lee, a down-and-out drifter from the Mojave Desert, hunts for fame and glory. When Lee suddenly shows up, unannounced, tensions rise as their dueling double-natures interfere with a life-changing screenplay collaboration. Meanwhile, the boys find that their own roles reverse with absurdly hazardous consequences.
