Larimer SCFD Call to Action!

Support the Larimer County Scientific and Cultural District (SCFD). Our petition is in the hands of the Larimer County Clerk to verify the language and format of the sections. We should have them to distribute within days.

WE HAVE ONLY TWO MONTHS REMAINING TO GATHER SIGNATURES!

It is critical that we succeed in gathering between 9,000 and 10,000 valid signatures from across Larimer County before the middle of July. This means that all of us must commit to the effort!! Our Leadership Group has representation from Estes Park, Loveland, Berthoud and Fort Collins. We have been meeting twice each month since last summer and we have designed a funding mechanism very similar to the highly successful Denver SCFD. This will be a dedicated revenue stream for ALL of the museums, galleries and performance troupes throughout the County regardless of size. Every community gets their share and every citizen gains access to reduced admissions, enhanced programs and educational outreach for Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Cultural History, Natural History and Natural Science.

Interested in Helping promote the arts in Larimer County?  Then COMMIT to this effort. Be MOTIVATED - hustle and set high goals. RECRUIT others to help circulate the petitions. (They also must complete all 7 steps listed below.) INSPIRE them with your own dedication and drive. Take the petition with you at all times! NEVER miss an opportunity to ask registered voters to sign!

PLEASE DO ALL OF THE FOLLOWING AS SOON AS POSSIBLE:

Reply to larimerscfd@gmail.com with your NAME, CITY, PHONE NUMBER AND AVAILABILITY.

Go to one of these locations and check out one or more petition sections. (Be persistent! The petitions are not there yet.)You will be given instructions and talking points. Commit to filling each section (50 signatures).

Attend every opportunity for a gathering of Larimer County citizens – Farmers Markets; 5-K runs; youth sporting events; art openings and performances; hang out in front of the grocery store; anywhere you have potential to approach registered voters across Larimer County.
If you learn of a good opportunity to meet with the public let us know at larimerscfd@gmail.com.
Get your staff and Board of Directors and family and co-workers to sign your petition. Sign the petition yourself BUT not the one you are circulating. Sign one that your friend is circulating.
Notarized petition packets with signatures must be turned in at any of these locations no later than Friday July 15, 2016.

Poudre High School Presents.....This Weekend!

"The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940"
Thursday April 28, 2016 to Sunday May 1, 2016 The creative team responsible for a recent Broadway flop (in which three chorus girls were murdered by the mysterious "Stage Door Slasher") assemble for a backer's audition of their new show at the Westchester estate of a wealthy "angel." The house is replete with sliding panels, secret passageways and a German maid who is apparently four different people—all of which figure diabolically in the comic mayhem which follows when the infamous "Slasher" makes his reappearance and strikes again—and again. As the composer, lyricist, actors and director prepare their performance, and a blizzard cuts off any possible retreat, bodies start to drop in plain sight, knives spring out of nowhere, masked figures drag their victims behind swiveling bookcases, and accusing fingers point in all directions.

Northwest Dance Project has established itself as a bold and innovative contemporary dance company performing all-original repertoire from an eclectic roster of accomplished choreographers as well as the most promising new talents in the field of dance. The company is classically trained, versatile, incredibly talented and a fearless collection of dynamic dancers.

Annual Contemporary Art Survey Engages Curiousity

What do masking tape, logs, and shrews have in common? You’ll find them all featured in various artworks in the Lincoln Center’s Annual Contemporary Art Survey exhibition.
Since opening its new art gallery in 2011, the Lincoln Center has presented a national juried exhibition that “takes the pulse” of contemporary art in America each year. The exhibit is open to any artist around the country to submit artwork, without any unifying theme other than work that “reflects the artist’s capacity to consider the wide world of issues, objects, imagery and ideas they encounter in creating art.” The resulting exhibits have been a diverse exploration of ideas that  inspire and engage the curious viewer.
Each year a Guest Juror from Colorado is invited to select the artworks that are entered for consideration. This year’s Guest Juror is Denver Post Fine Arts Critic Ray Rinaldi.  The exhibit has always resulted in an eclectic and thought-provoking combination of artworks, from sculpture to painting and everything in between. This year’s Annual Contemporary Art Survey is no exception. Mr. Rinaldi has selected works that explore a wide range of ideas from pure color and form, to figural work, to conceptual ideas and contemporary issues.
In a blind-jury process (the juror did not see the name and origin of the submitting artists) Mr. Rinaldi selected 56 artworks from nearly 600 images submitted by 177 artists from around the country. Twenty-eight artists from 13 states will participate in the exhibition.
The diverse selection of media includes painting, drawing, print-making, photography, fiber arts, and sculpture. In addition are several installations made of unconventional materials including logs, embroidery thread, Chinese poetry dowels, and colored sand. One installation will be created from a blind-folded performance with masking tape.
Mr. Rinaldi will offer a Gallery Talk on Friday, April 15, 5-6 p.m. in the galleries before the reception. He will also select a number of artworks that the Lincoln Center will award over $2,000 in cash prizes. The awards will be presented during the Opening Reception on Friday, April 15, 6-8 p.m. More information is available at www.lctix.com/exhibitions .

Exhibition Dates: April 15-May 28, 2016

"Neighborhoods” Thompson School District photographers document and interpret the region

"Neighborhoods" features approximately 70 black and white silver gelatin images which were created and printed in the Artworks darkroom of artist Bob Campagna. For the Neighborhoods exhibit, middle school student photographers designed their own regional photographic journeys. The total of diverse journeys combines for the exhibit, with geographic locations which include: Estes Park, Benson Sculpture Garden, downtown Loveland, Colorado State University campus, Old Town Ft. Collins, Rock Ridge Ranch, Masonville, and other locales.

The exhibit’s sixty student artists come from: Lucile Erwin, Bill Reed, Turner, Conrad Ball, and Walt Clark Middle Schools.

“During the photo outings, our students’ conformity gave way to confidence and creativity,” explained Sue Teumer, Gifted and Talented educator at Lucile Erwin Middle School. “Each idea at the early stops seemed to be the idea of the group, as the day progressed, students became comfortable finding unique angles, taking one-of-a-kind shots and really engaging in conversations with their photo subjects.” And thus an exhibit is born.

Since fall 2000, Artworks artist Bob Campagna has taught an annual black and white photography workshop through the Gifted and Talented program in the Thompson School District. This exhibit marks the 15th such workshop.

All student artwork is for sale; 70% to student photographer and 30% to Artworks nonprofit.

GLOBAL JUSTICE: A FRAME OF MIND Opening Reception

The TILT Annual Celebration of Academics in the Arts (TACAA) is excited to announce its opening gallery and reception on Saturday, April 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. The reception will be held in the Grand Hall in the TILT building. The CSU and Fort Collins community are cordially invited to this first annual event. All are welcome to attend!

TILT or The Institute of Learning and Teaching’s Learning Programs are designed to enhance the educational experience of students at CSU by enhancing academic skills, supporting work in courses, offering enrichments that go beyond the classroom and providing preparation for life after graduation. Main Coordinator Connor Kealey feels as though TACAA helps to achieve this mission “by asking artists to engage with academic rigor within their creative works and also by choosing such a timely theme to frame this year’s gallery.”

During this event the winners will be recognized for first, second and third place. Guests will have the opportunity to speak with the winners and other participants about the gallery and global justice.

“We were so thrilled with the amount of interest that we’ve received for this gallery. I think the TILT building is such a beautiful venue to celebrate academics in the arts and all of the hard work put in by these talented artists,” said Laura Esposito, TACAA communications coordinator.

Any questions or concerns about the gallery opening reception can be sent to artlearningcsu@gmail.com.

Please note: Parking around the TILT building is free on the weekend, but please be aware of parking signage, as some areas require payment or a permit for guests.
