Launch Event for Larimer SCFD Petition Signing Campaign

Saturday, May 21 @ 4-6pm, Community Creative Center in FoCo- 200 Matthews St in Old Town.

It’s come down to the wire - with our fingernails barely intact! – But, after four rejected submissions our petitions are now ready to circulate and we can start working towards establishing the Larimer County Scientific and Cultural Facilities District! Our success depends on you!

We need to gather signatures - and we only have 8 weeks to gather 14,000 of them. This may seem daunting. But we have a solid ground game poised and ready to put into action, and with your help many hands will make it light work.

Please join us this Saturday as we switch into high gear NOW on the petition signing campaign.

PLEASE DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN TO BE THERE AND INVITE
EVERYBODY ON YOUR MAILING LIST! THERE’S NO TIME TO WASTE!

There’ll be a presentation to help everyone understand the positive impact the SCFD will have, followed by a volunteer training, meet and greet with team captains and a sign-up for volunteer non-petitioncirculators (and of course opportunities to make donations by check, cash or with your favorite card).

WE HAVE A LOT OF WORK TO DO. Please join us at the
Community Creative Center for the big launch. We can do this - with your help!

Help 'Write Minded' record their debut album!

Hailing from Fort Collins, Colorado, Write Minded is a live hip-hop band consisting of soulful grooves and thought provoking lyrics with influences of reggae, funk, and rock. Members include Sam Mouton (Vocals), Jesse Neth (Vocals), Wilson Slaughter (Keys/Synths), Jonah Greene (Drums), Forrester Tamkun (Guitar), and Jarod Ford a.k.a Turtle Bear (bass). The band was born when these six musicians from separate groups (hip-hop, psychedelic rock, electronic instrumental hip-hop) got together and began writing music and performing in Fort Collins. The band has developed a unique sound, and has shared stages with Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, John Brown's Body, People Under the Stairs, Everlast, the Steve Miller Band, and plenty of other well known artists. The band was also invited to participate in the Colorado Showcase at SXSW in Austin, Texas in 2015. Write Minded has enjoyed playing local festivals including the Fort Collins Music Experiment, and was selected to play on the main stage at the annual Bohemian Nights New West Fest last summer.
More important than any stage or show, Write Minded is composed of six passionate, motivated, and talented individuals who hope to share their music and message with the world.
Within one year of getting together, Write Minded has recorded and released a 4-song demo, and a music video to a song off of the upcoming full length album. At this point in time, the band is asking for your help to fund the processes of mixing, mastering and manufacturing the full- length album. The album has already been recorded at the Blasting Room in Fort Collins, and the band needs help the to push it through the final processes.
A huge thanks to all the support so far, without you none of this would be possible!!!

Help support the band here.

Front Range Forum Movie Series, Summer 2016

The theme for this summer’s movies will be a “celebration of the arts.”  The four movies described below will feature painting, dancing, classical music, and Broadway.

May 11.  “Pollock.”  2001.  Directed and starring Ed Harris, this is a moving drama about the legendary American painter Jackson Pollock.  Fellow artists and lovers Pollock and Lee Krasner are at the center of New York’s 1940s art scene, but as Krasner neglects her work to push Pollock’s career forward, he begins to unravel emotionally.  They escape to the country, marry, and soon Pollock creates work that makes him internationally famous.  But with fame and fortune comes a volatile temper and severe self-doubt.  Marcia Gay Harden (Krasner) won the academy award for best supporting actress.  123 min.

June 8  “Satin Rouge” (Red Satin).  2002.  In this Tunisian film directed and written by Raja Amari, the tale follows Lilia (Hiam Abass) who is at a loss to find direction in her life after the death of her husband.  Her daughter Salma (Hend El Fahem) is too busy with school and friends and is now dating a musician named Chokri (Maher Kamoun).  Lilia discovers Chokri performs at a nightclub featuring belly dancers.  She is drawn into this carefree attitude of the club, becomes fascinated with belly dancing, and soon becomes a performer, while being drawn into a relationship with Chokri.  100 min.

July 13.  “Late Quartet.”  2012.  Starring Christopher Walken and Philip Seymour Hoffman, and directed by Yaron Zilberman.  When the beloved cellist of a world-renowned string quartet receives a life changing diagnosis, the group’s future suddenly hangs in the balance.  Competing egos and uncontrollable passions threaten to derail years of friendship and collaboration.  As they prepare to play their 25th anniversary concert (structured around Beethoven’s String Quartet in C-sharp minor), only their personal bonds and the power of music can preserve their legacy.  This movie pays homage to chamber music and the cultural world of New York.  105 min.

August 10.  “De-Lovely.”  2004.  Starring Kevin Kline as Cole Porter and Ashley Judd as his wife Linda, this is an original musical portrait of a great American composer, filled with his unforgettable songs.  In the film, Porter is looking back on his life as if it was one of his spectacular stage shows, with the people and events of his life becoming the actors and action onstage.  Through elaborate production numbers and popular hits like “Anything Goes,” “It’s De-Lovely,” and “Night and Day,” Porter’s elegant, excessive past comes to light, including his deeply complicated relationship with his wife and muse, Linda Lee Porter.  Directed by Irwin Winkler.  125 min.
