Call for Artist Teachers

Wondering if your creativity camp idea would be a good fit? Give us a call or write and we will help you cultivate your class proposal.

It's time to start thinking about Summer plans. Steamboat Springs Arts Council is looking for teachers and artists to design and teach a week-long creativity camp. This is a great way to earn a little something while sharing your passion with students. Submit your proposal to teach a week-long creativity class for this Summer’s Young at Art Creativity Camps. Weekly sessions running June 13 – August 19, 2016.

Proposals due March 10th

Young at Art is one of the Steamboat Springs Arts Council’s longest running programs. Since the inception we have served thousands of children ages 4 -18, while providing support and sustenance to hundreds of artists/teachers in the valley.  This year’s programming will focus on the theme of Creative Problem Solving.

Children who can effectively problem solve are better prepared for this ever-changing world in which they will soon become leaders. Creativity is a fundamental tool in teaching children the importance of problem solving. Through creative projects, a problem or objective can be identified and solutions looked at from all angles. Often times there is more than one solution. Weaving this in our creativity camps will positively impact students by boosting their confidence, challenging their critical thinking skills, and stimulating their imagination. Young at Art students will walk away feeling accomplished as creative problem solvers.

Young at Art teachers are provided lots of Arts Council support:
We do the marketing
We take care of registrations and liability forms
We provide a dedicated assistant to help with your project, and to help with the logistics of gathering the students
We have a resource room called Create Space full of up-cycled supplies available for you
We can help you flesh out your idea if you haven’t taught it before
We provide a budget for material costs
You receive 50% of all of the registration fees (including scholarships)
Your creative guidance will make an impact on the lives of children in our community
Each session students meet Monday-Friday, daily from 8:30 – 12:00 for morning sessions and 1:00 – 4:30 for afternoon sessions. Half day and full day sessions are offered. We ask that teachers maximize the student’s class time by allowing 30 minutes before class to prepare and 30 minutes after class to pack up. Teachers receive half of registration fees.

Past classes have featured dance, photography, creative writing, painting, fashion design, music, robotics and theater. We are looking for programming for youth ages 4 and up.

Please contact Terese Coco, Education Program Manager at the Steamboat Arts Council and let us know how you’d like to share your treasure.

Ayn Hanna is on Fire!

February 13 – April 10, 2016
Opening Reception: Friday February 12, 6 – 8 pm
Gallery Talk with Ayn Hanna: Friday, March 11, 5 – 6 pm
Trained as a printmaker, Colorado artist Ayn Hanna creates richly drawn active surfaces, exploring drawing and mark-making.  In her textile work, Hanna uses her own hand-dyed fabrics combined with multiple surface design techniques including painting, discharging, and deconstructed screen printing to create abstract mixed media textile paintings and art cloth.  Her textile paintings include layers of fabric combined with thread “drawing” to develop texture and line.
Included in the exhibit are works from Hanna’s LineScape Series which are inspired by maps of real and imagined places.  Drawing and the drawn/stitched line quality is an important element of this series.
Also included are a selection of Dye Drawings – pieces that combine deconstructed screen printing, direct dye drawing and stitching on fabric.  This deconstructed screen printing process is a remarkable synthesis of printing, painting, and drawing, allowing for a wholly unique approach to mark-making.
Ayn Hanna earned her MFA in printmaking and sculpture from Colorado State University in 1990 and has been working with textiles since 2005.
I am inspired by our many systems for mapping and organizing ideas, stories, data and place.  I enjoy the overlaps that exist between art and science – shapes, models, diagrams, formulas, patterns, etc. I am fascinated by connectors and connections, both physical and spiritual.  My work is a mapping of my inner and outer world, combining imagery and personal symbols to convey my feelings of places and experiences.~ Ayn Hanna

Artspace Loveland Grand Opening!

Local Artist Hosts a Card Swap

This is soooo Community Art....I can't stand it!

1. After I hear from everyone who wants to participate and I give you the signal, you'll have 7 weeks to make ten (10) greeting cards, most often somewhat identical in design (although this is not required).  These cards can be any shape or size, blank on the inside, themed... wherever your whimsy takes you. Every medium is welcome: fabric, stamping, painting, beads, collage, photography, papercraft.... Most important is that whatever you make fits into an envelope that can be mailed either domestically or abroad.

THEME:  This year's theme can be either "surprise" or "text." By "surprise," you can be literal if you'd like, but my idea for this theme is based on wanting to surprise the recipient with some aspect of the card. For "text" I mean something that integrates text into your design. You could pick one alphabet letter or word and build a design around it, or do like you may have seen me do several times and have words embedded in the background. Be creative! Interpret as loosely as you need to. (And if you're totally uninspired, just throw the theme out the window and do what you want!)

2. On or before the given postmark deadline, you'll send all the cards you make to me with enough envelopes for each card and five dollars. When you sign up, there is also a way to pay electronically if you prefer.

3. Once I receive everyone's cards, I'll divvy them up so that every person receives ten cards from other swap participants. Using your moola, I'll send them back to you.

4. You'll receive a set of handmade greeting cards to use over the next year in the mail for a limited cost and a ton of fun.

Here are the dates you need to know:
·   RSVP to participate in the card swap by clicking HERE.
·   Start thinking about/making your design as soon as you can.  You'll be surprised how quickly that deadline will be here.
·   I'll host a Work Party at my studio in Fort Collins, CO one weekend in March--anyone who participates in the swap is welcome to join us.
·   Monday, April 4 is the postmark date for getting those cards, enough corresponding envelopes, and cash (if you didn't pay electronically) in the mail to me. (If you're local, you obviously don't have to bother with the sending business--we'll just rendezvous!)
·   I'll send out a reminder about 4 weeks through.
·   Around May 1 is when I will hopefully send your cards back to you.

Please DO forward this invitation to any of your crafty or arty friends and have them sign up here if they'd like to participate.  Anyone is welcome (even if card-making is not your main means of artistic expression!).  My only request is that everyone who signs up follows through to make/swap their cards.

Watercolor Workshops Coming Soon!

Beginning Watercolor Workshop
“Watercolor Magic!”
MARCH 5 & 6
Saturday and Sunday
in Fort Collins, CO
9:00 - 4:00 both days (lunch break at noon)
This workshop is designed for beginners, so if you have never painted before you are the perfect student. And don’t worry, you don’t even need to know how to draw. All you need is the desire to learn and be ready to have a great time!  You will amaze yourself with what you'll do during this workshop.  My joy is to share with you the magic of watercolors and to take the mystery out of it.  You'll learn lots of fun techniques and be introduced to materials, color, composition, values and more.  If you’ve ever thought you would like to try painting someday, now is the time!
It’s a great refresher course, too.  Students take this class again and again because they get inspiration and learn more each time. If you've enjoyed doing artwork before but have been away from it, this class will help get you back into your art.

“Watercolor Bliss”
APRIL 12 & 13
Tuesday and Wednesday
in Fort Collins, CO

Learn new techniques and helpful hints.  I will offer individual help during the two days, as well as do many demos for you. Take your work to the next level as you make a big splash!

Masks Matters!
The Masks Project contributes a major portion of the Fort Collins Museum of Art's annual operating budget. With gratitude we thank our sponsors, and we thank the more than 200 Artists who commit not only their time and talent but the funds to create the works of art that form the foundation of the Masks Project. Without their generosity there would be no Masks Project.
