Drepung Gomang Sacred Arts Tour

October 8, 9, 10, & 11

Six Buddhist Monks from the Drepung Gomang Monastery in India will be visiting Fort Collins during their Sacred Arts Tour this October. The Gomang monks bring ancient ways and beliefs that promote global peace, non-violent conflict resolution, compassion, and wisdom.

October 8 at 3 pm they will bless Global Village Museum’s Tibetan Losel Dolls Collection.  Following the blessing, an opening ceremony will be held for the creation of the Sacred World Peace Sand Mandala (designed by the Dalai Lama). The Mandala depicts all world religions in harmony.  Beautiful authentic items made by Tibetan craftspeople will be offered for sale.

Oct 9, 10, and 11 (11 – 5 pm) the monks will craft the Peace Mandala sandpainting in the Museum entry and the public is invited to watch the process.  Saturday, Oct 11 there will be a closing ceremony at the Museum culminating in a procession to disperse the sacred sand into the Poudre River.  This is open to the public.

The final event of their tour is the Drepung Gomang Cultural Pageant at the Fort Collins Senior Center Twinberry Auditorium on Sunday, Oct 12 at 3 pm.  Tickets for this event are $10 and available at the Senior Center 970.221.6644.  The pageant features the monks in costume performing the Yak Dance, the Snow Lion Dance, the Good Luck Dance, music, and chanting prayers.
