Sustaining Vibrant Southeast Asian Artisans by Marilyn Murphy

Join Marilyn Murphy, managing partner of ClothRoads, for a behind the scenes look at textiles and artisans from Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, and the Philippines.  Listen to stories of these artisans to see how they are preparing to sustain their heritage of textile crafts into the future.
Textile artisan cooperatives and social enterprises exist all over the world. Each cooperative has a similar mission. All aim to preserve cultural traditions and history, establish a sustainable economic base, and to enter into the global commerce market.
Global Village Museum at 200 W Mountain Ave welcomes Marilyn for this event, Thursday, September 17. Doors open at 6:00 for a social tea and opportunity to view “trunk show” and purchase textiles from exotic regions. Presentation starts at 7:00 Admission free for Museum members and $5 for public.
 
Marilyn Murphy is the managing partner of ClothRoads.com, a global artisan textile marketplace, co-chair of Andean Textile Arts, and former president of Interweave, a multimedia craft-based publishing company. She is a Chicago native and currently resides in Fort Collins, Colorado.
