2015 OpenStage Theatre Founder's Award

The OpenStage Theatre Founder's Award was first presented to Bruce and Denise Freestone in 1998 during the Company's 25th Anniversary. Since then the Founder's Award has been given annually to an outstanding OpenStage Theatre artist who, over an extended period of time, has embodied the values of OpenStage Theatre - Generosity of Spirit, Excellence, Innovation, Risk-Taking - an individual dedicated to the heart and soul of OpenStage Theatre.

This year's Founder's Award recipient is an individual who has acted with OpenStage Theatre since 1980. He has had a plethora of leading and supporting roles during his35 year tenure with the Company and has received numerous OPUS Awards for his talents.

Whenever a director was able to secure his talent, they knew they could depend on a performance that incorporated his heart and soul and an intimate and charismatic connection with the audience. He has incredible integrity and dedication to his artistry and to OpenStage Theatre.

He is sometimes deceptively quiet, has a quirky sense of humor, is always popular with the opposite sex, and inevitably brings joie de vive to any gathering, no matter how small or large. He is known for performing as Santa Claus virtually every year throughout the community, and his interpretation means people immediately fall in love with him and tell him their most personal desires.

It is with great delight and loving fondness that Bruce and Denise present this year's Founder's Award to their dear and long-time friend, valued colleague and an individual with the greatest beard and head of hair they have the pleasure of admiring, Charlie Ferrie.
