In Conversation: Visual Art and Poetry

At Artworks, Loveland
Reception, poetry readings and performance Friday, April 17th, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Over the centuries, poets have responded to visual art in poetry, and (less often) the reverse. One well-known poetic response is Rainier Maria Rilke’s “Archaic Torso of Apollo,” which ends with the insight that a powerful work of art looks back at the viewer, who must change his or her life. You are invited to the exhibit “In Conversation: Visual Art and Poetry,” which is part of Loveland’s celebration of National Poetry Month, in April. The idea for this exhibit and event is to capture a dialog between visual art and poetry. It began with each visual artist’s image being sent to a poet. The poet wrote a poem in response. Then each poet’s poem went to a different visual artist, who responded with a new visual piece. The result is an exhibit of visual art and poetry, displayed in conversational groupings. We hope you enjoy discovering the connections made artist to artist.
