Saturday Workshop Gelli Plate Printing with Golden Acrylics

Instructor:  Mary Morrison, Golden Paints Working Artist
Fee:  $75 includes all Golden Paints and Mediums
Date:  This Saturday, August 29th
Time:  10:30A to 3:00P

Location:  Jerry's Artarama, Fort Collins, 3524 South Mason Street

This workshop is great for beginners and professional artists alike! We will work with the Gelli Plates and Golden's acrylic paints...specifically OPEN, for it's long easy open time, and with the High Flow ink like acrylics that brings some  beautiful color and delicate washes to our prints. Multiple simple and accessible techniques will be demoed.....including registration, masking, stencils, stamping and multiple printing. For years artist have found monoprinting to be a springboard for new ideas, working in a series and getting an abstract start.  This is a great way to create collage papers as we will also work on thin deli papers that are great for layered images and transfers.

A Gelli plate looks and feels like DIY gelatin plate, but is durable, reusable and stores at room temperature. Plus making your own can be hit or miss.  Gelli brand plates are easy to clean and always ready for printing. Monoprinting on a Gelli plate is simple and fun. The gratification is immediate, and the prints are too cool! And you can print on fabric too!
All Golden paints and mediums are provided, as well as brayer and Catalyst tools for mark making, and Deli papers.  Participants will need to bring a 5" x 7" to 8" x 10" (in that range....there are also square sizes) Gelli plate.

What to do with the Trolley Barn?

The City of Fort Collins will host a neighborhood meeting September 9 to gather input on future use of the historic Trolley Barn. The meeting will be 5-6 p.m. at 215 N. Mason St., Community Room.

The Trolley Barn, at 330 N. Howes St., served as a depot for the Fort Collins Municipal Railway street car system from 1907 – 1951. It was designated as a Historic Landmark in the 1990s, and is used by City of Fort Collins Operations Services to store vehicles and equipment.

Several proposals have been made for the future use of the Trolley Barn. These include a community marketplace, a brewery, a museum and other uses.

Have thoughts on the Trolley Barn? Take a brief questionnaire atwww.fcgov.com/trolleybarn .

ReTree Call for Entry

Each year, the Yampa Valley Sustainability Council plants and cares for thousands of trees through their community “ReTree” program. Inspired by this program, YVSC and the Steamboat Springs Arts Council are teaming up to celebrate the natural beauty of our surroundings and artwork that is so often inspired by it. ReTree encompasses: community, collaboration, giving, repurposing, nature, natural beauty, and more.

The Steamboat Springs Arts Council and the Yampa Valley Sustainability Council invite artists to be inspired by ReTree and submit work for a group exhibition. The two-month show will be displayed in October and November as the Aspen trees turn our valley gold. Two- and three-dimensional work is accepted.

Trees, branches, planting, recycling, forests, reforest, paper, roots, leaves, Cedar knees, renewal…
