The Gardens on Spring Creek is hosting two wonderful classes this weekend for those of you whose creative talents rest in the garden.
Botany for Gardeners
Sat., Feb. 14; 10 a.m.-Noon, $18 (Note: $3 discount for members of The Gardens on Spring Creek.)
Besides being fascinating to plant geeks, basic botany can help you understand how plants grow, thus improving your green thumb. This hands-on workshop will provide tips, tools and techniques that will help your garden flourish. Learn basics such as how growth hormones cause plants to bend, stems to grow up and roots down and why leaves have evolved different textures among other intriguing details. Instructor: Marcee Camenson
Grow the Rainbow: Daylilies and Iris
Sat., Feb. 14; 1-3 p.m.; $18 (Note: $3 discount for members of The Gardens on Spring Creek.)
Learn how to best care for these garden mainstays and how they’ve changed from their wild forms to today’s fantastic flowers. The class will also include the mechanics of hybridizing iris and daylilies so you can actually breed your own unique varieties. Instructor: Debra Scott, Regional President, Daylily Society
